Winschoten – site visit

On 14 July a delegation from the RUN board met with 2 members of the IAU, Liesbeth Jansen Director of Organisations, Jan Vandendriessche Director of Labelling and technical delegate Adri Stevens. The meeting was part of the site visit and review of the preparation for the 2020 IAU 100 km World Championship. The organization in Winschoten has a long history of having 100 km race and they were hosting IAU Championships in the past.

We are now more than a year from the event but the preparation is already going for some time. The LOC is progressing a lot and on schedule, but as mentioned during the visit still lots of work have to be done towards another successful and memorable Championship.

The event will take place on September 12th 2020. After a great World and European Championship that took place in Winschoten in 2015 we all will have chance to come back and experience local hospitality again.

A part of IAU 100 km World championship the following points were taken into consideration but will be a subject to further discussion

  • WMA World Championship 100 km
  • 100 km National Championship
  • 100 km and 50 km Open Race
  • 10 x 10 km relay
  • The Lutje-Run on Friday (children´s run)
  • The Fun-Run on Friday evening (from 6.30 p.m.)

The course is a 10 km flat and traffic-free track which leads through Winschoten and Heiligerlee. We are still ahead of open race in 2019 and this will be a great opportunity to try how it is to run in northern part of Netherlands, experience great atmosphere from supporters.
